Matthew Olson ~ Principal

Matt Olson joined North Santiam School District in 2007 as a physical education teacher at Stayton Middle School and taught in that position until 2013 when he went to the Greater Albany School District for one year as a Dean of Students and teacher. During that time, he completed his M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy. Mr. Olson returned to NSSD in 2014 the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Stayton Middle School. He became the Interim Principal in July 2025. The role was made permanent in January 2026.

Mr. Olson has lived in the Stayton area since 1990, when his parents moved to the area. He attended Stayton Elementary School, Stayton Middle School, and is a graduate of Stayton High School. After high school, Mr. Olson attended Chemeketa Community College before moving on to Western Oregon University. Mr. Olson is married to JuliAnn Olson and has four children. He enjoys all things outdoors, including cycling, fly fishing, camping, and running.

Jessica Roth ~ Assistant Principal

Jessica has worked for the district since 2008. She has held numerous roles, including elementary teacher, AVID Site Coordinator, Instructional Coach, Assessment Coordinator, TAG Coordinator, and, most recently, Dean of Student Success. She became the Interim Assistant Principal/Athletic Director in July 2025. This role was made permanent in January 2026. 

Starting in the 2026-27 school year, the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director positions were separated, making her the full-time Assistant Principal.

 Thomas Smith~ Dean of Students/ Athletic Director

Thomas came to the NSSD as a middle school math and science teacher in 2020. He became the Interim Dean of Students in July 2025, with the role becoming permanent in January 2026. Starting in the 2026-27 school year, he will also serve as Athletic Director for middle school sports. 

Thomas is a native Oregonian and lives locally with his wife and three children. He loves the outdoors and is a huge sports fan!
